He is\u00a0succeeded as chief by\u00a0his son Hugh Archibald William Montgomerie<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"549\" height=\"309\" src=\"https:\/\/project1-m9gb2xku8.live-website.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/earl.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-65182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/project1-m9gb2xku8.live-website.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/earl.jpeg 549w, https:\/\/project1-m9gb2xku8.live-website.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/earl-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was made a partner at Grieveson Grant &amp; Company a London based Pension Trust in&nbsp;1957&nbsp;and worked there until&nbsp;1972.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the 7th February 1964 he married Marion Carolina Dunn-Yarker, daughter of John Henry Dunn-Yarker and Elizabeth Adrienne Pinching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the death of his father, Archibald William Alexander Montgomerie, 17th Earl of Eglinton in 1966 he became&nbsp;Chief of the Name and Arms of Montgomery and also&nbsp;succeeded as the 18th Earl of Eglinton and&nbsp;as 7th Baron Ardrossan, of Ardrossan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was managing director of Gerrard Holdings between 1972 and 1992&nbsp;and&nbsp;was member of the London Stock Exchange. He was chairman of Gerrard Vivian Gray Ltd between 1992 and 1994 and was made chairman of Edinburgh Investment Trust plc in 1994<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lived in 2003 at Balhomie, Cargill, Perthshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is to be cremated at a private family service at Birnam and there will be a memorial service held at St Paul&#8217;s, Knightsbridge, London, on 11th October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Archibald George Montgomerie is survived by his wife, Marion&nbsp;and 4 sons; Hugh, William, James and Robert and eight grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Archibald George Montgomerie, 18th Earl of Eglinton, 6th Earl of Winton and\u00a0chief of Clan Montgomery passed away on 14th June.
