Five headless ghosts of Dunphail Castle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dunphail Castle, a few miles south of\u00a0Forres, Moray, was a property of the Comyn&#8217;s that was besieged in id=\"caption-attachment-59527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dunphail Castle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Five headless ghosts are supposed to have haunted Dunphail Castle near Forres. \u00a0This was\u00a0a <a title=\"Cumming Septs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scotclans.com\/scottish-clans\/clan-cumming\/\">Cummings Clan<\/a> Castle and was under seige from the Earl of Moray. \u00a0Five of the defenders of the castle (Alasdair Comyn of Dunphail and 4 of his men) fought their way out to re-supply their comrades with food. \u00a0But when they returned with grain they were captured by the Moray men and beheaded; their heads were thrown to the castle defenders, \u00a0allegedly with the words &#8220;here&#8217;s your beef for your bannocks&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The garrison of the castle also tried to flee but were slaughtered.<\/p>\n<p>The lands later passed to the\u00a0Dunbars where there were many tales of the five headless ghosts.<\/p>\n<p>Later five headless skeletons were found, buried in a mound or barrow outside the castle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-59529\" alt=\"ghosts\"
