The building was founded in 1200 as a college for Priests. The site also contains a graveyard called\u00a0<span>Teampull Clann a&#8217;Phiocair (Church of the MacVicars) where this clan are reported to have buried their dead after the church fell into disrepair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotclans.com\/clan-shop\/macleod\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scotclans.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/macleod-ad2.jpg\" alt=\"macleod-ad2\" width=\"600\" height=\"212\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/project1-m9gb2xku8.live-website.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/macleod-ad2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/project1-m9gb2xku8.live-website.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/macleod-ad2-300x106.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Near to this spot is the site of the\u00a0<span>The Battle of Cairinis in 1601. It has been said that this was the last battle fought in Scotland using traditional weapons. The Battle was the result of a dispute between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotclans.com\/scottish-clans\/clan-macdonald\/\">Clan MacDonald<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotclans.com\/scottish-clans\/clan-macleod\/\">Clan MacLeod from Harris<\/a>. One of the MacDonalds had decided to divorce his wife, a MacLeod. This angered the MacLeods and the formed a raiding party to Uist to attack the MacDonalds. Initially the MacDonalds attempted to use the <\/span>Teampull na Trionaid as a sanctuary but later achieved the upper hand and won the day.
